Tesla has given the U.S. Model 3 a mid-cycle refresh focused on the screen and the dual-motor trims, without touching prices. Tesla North America announced the changes on X, and they apply to Model 3s sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico.
What changed
- A 16-inch center touchscreen on every trim, replacing the 15.4-inch unit, including the base rear-wheel-drive car. It is the same screen Tesla added to the Model Y Premium in January.
- Model 3 Performance: EPA-estimated range rises to 316 miles from 309, peak power is listed at 528 hp (Tesla listed 510 hp at the car's 2024 launch), and it gets a black headliner. Its 0-60 mph time is unchanged at 2.9 seconds.
- Model 3 Premium AWD: 0-60 mph drops to 3.8 seconds from 4.2, with 346 miles of range.
Tesla hasn't said where the extra power and range come from, or whether any of it will reach cars already delivered.
U.S. prices (unchanged)
- Model 3 RWD: $36,990
- Premium RWD: $42,490
- Premium AWD: $47,490
- Performance: $54,990
What U.S. buyers still don't get
Vehicle-to-load. In China, every Model 3 can now supply 2.2 kW of AC power through an adapter, handy for camping or power tools. In the U.S., Tesla limited V2L to the Model Y Premium, Model Y Performance and Cybertruck in August, and the Model 3 update didn't change that.
The light gray interior. Tesla added it to the China-market Model 3 on Oct. 1, along with the 16-inch screen, but it isn't in the U.S. configurator. U.S. buyers still choose black or black-and-white.
Canada wasn't included. Tesla's announcement named only the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico, and the Canadian configurator still showed the 15.4-inch screen when Electrek checked.
Should you wait or buy?
If you're shopping for a Performance or Premium AWD, the update adds real value at the same price, so make sure any inventory car you're offered is the updated version; ask for the screen size and EPA range on the window sticker. If you already own a Model 3, there is no indication the hardware changes can be retrofitted, and Tesla hasn't said whether the power bump applies to earlier cars.
Shoppers who care about outlet power for camping or job sites should note that, in the U.S., that feature currently means choosing a Model Y Premium, Model Y Performance or Cybertruck.
